This beautiful hand crafted Chess Board is made from Birdseye Maple, Padauk & Wenge.  This chess board is made to regulation standards with each square at 2 1/8" diameter.  Squares are made from Birdseye Maple and Padauk.  Banding is from Birdseye Maple and Wenge accents. Maple refers to the sweet sap that maple sugar is derived from. These trees are easy to spot because the trunk looks like its covered in ivy. When the small limbs are sliced off during the milling process there is a tell-tale bird's eye that remains. Birdseye Maple comes from either Hard Maple, Sugar Maple or Rock Maple. This Birdseye Maple is from Sugar Maple. It's the state tree in 4 states. New York, Vermont, West Virginia & Wisconsin. Mature trees grow to a height up to 115 ft with a diameter up to 3 ft. Padauk is from Central and Tropical West Africa. The color of Padauk is a beautiful reddish orange color. Padauk trees grow to a height up to 130 feet with a diameter up to 4 feet. Wenge is from equatorial West Africa. The wood is difficult to obtain over the last 10 years due to internal conflict in Africa. Wenge trees grow to a height of 90 feet and a diameter of up to 4 feet.  Game pieces included. Overall Board size: 18 7/8" square and 1 1/4" thick.
